Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups self-raising flour 
  • 1/2 cup custard powder 
  • 1/2 cup caster sugar 
  • 125g butter, chopped, at room temperature 
  • 1/4 cup milk 
  • 1/2 cup glace cherries, chopped, plus extra quarters for top 

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to moderate, 180C. Lightly grease and line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
  2. Sift flour and custard powder together into a bowl. Stir in sugar. Rub in butter using fingertips, until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  3. Stir in milk and cherries. Form into balls. Arrange on prepared tray, about 2cm apart. Flatten slightly using a floured fork. Top each with a piece of cherry if liked.
  4. Bake for 10-12 mins, until golden. Cool on tray for 5 mins before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
