Mulled wine with figs

Beat the chill by cupping your hands around a glass of warmed wine spiced with cinnamon and cloves.

Ingredients:

  • 2 x 750ml btls red wine 
  • 1 orange, thickly sliced 
  • 6 dried figs 
  • 2 cinnamon sticks 
  • 6 whole cloves 

Instructions

  1. Combine the wine, orange, figs, cinnamon and cloves in a large saucepan over medium heat. Simmer for 3 minutes. Set aside for 10 minutes to infuse. Strain the wine mixture through a sieve into a jug, reserving the figs. Discard the orange, cinnamon and cloves. Coarsely chop the figs.
  2. Divide the fig among heatproof serving glasses and pour over the wine.
